Take a day trip to York, around 1.15 hours drive from Whitby

Clifford’s Tower is one of the most beautiful attractions in York, and it is a glorious symbol of England’s Medieval Kings. There is also the York Art Gallery, which houses some of the most stunning artwork in the whole of the UK. The Yorkshire Museum is yet another place that many people who visit York flock to, and it’s certainly worth checking out. Of course, no trip to York is complete without visiting the stunning York Minister Cathedral. This Cathedral is one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe and the impressive building is one of the top tourist attractions in Yorkshire.

Around 1.15 hours drive from Whitby, York has a lot of different things to offer if you’re considering a day trip. You will find some outstanding restaurants, including the famous “Jamie’s Italian“, founded by Jamie Oliver and his Italian mentor, chef Gennaro Contaldo. York’s Chocolate Story is a fascinating place to visit if you have a sweet tooth. The Yorkboat river cruise will provide you with a tour of the area along the River Ouse, which is the perfect way to see certain parts of this historic city. Discover Staithes, around a 20-minute drive from Whitby

Staithes is an alluring little fishing village located on the Yorkshire Coast, just a short drive from Whitby. If the weather is good, head to Staithes and enjoy a few hours on the beach before relaxing in the Cod & Lobster pub in the harbour, where you can spend hours watching the world pass you by or enjoying some freshly cooked local food.

It also features in the Harry Potter movies, so the kids will love spending time there too. The heritage station in the village was used as ‘Hogsmeade’ station in the movies.
