We are already excited that the Tour de Yorkshire will return once again to the Yorkshire Coast on 28th April. The route includes Goathland, Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby before finishing spectacularly at Scarborough’s North Bay.

This is just one of the great things happening on the coast this year.

Here’s a little look at some of the top events you can attend in 2017:

Whitby

Whitby Goth Weekend – 21st to 23rd April, October TBC

This bi-annual event sees a selection of live bands, a bizarre bazaar and an array of fabulous outfits. Acts confirmed for April include Toyah and Aurelio Voltaire.

Whitby Regatta – 19th to 21st August

This spectacular event includes yacht racing, rowing and a whole raft of free entertainment included a spectacular fireworks display and vintage car rally.

Whitby 60s Weekend – 22nd to 24th September

Taking place at Whitby Pavillion, the Whitby 60s weekend hosts a selection of bands and tribute acts from this swinging decade. Expect lots of fabulous fashion too!

Whitby Steampunk Weekend – 28th to 30th July

After the success of the very first Steampunk weekend earlier this year, another dedicated event will take place in July. Expect some wonderfully weird outfits combining science fiction and Victoriana!

Whitby Traction Engine Rally – 4th to 6th August

This popular event includes a range of daredevil stunts, an array of classic and miniature steam engines plus various stalls and stands. There will also be a craft and fine foods marquee plus licenced bar!

Scarborough Open Air Theatre – May to October

The open air theatre has a packed schedule from May to October. Acts performing in 2017 include The Beach Boys, The Kaiser Chiefs, Cliff Richard, UB40, Little Mix, Olly Murs and Jess Glynn. There really is something for everyone!

Scarborough Seafest – 21st to 23rd July

Now in its 19th year this popular festival takes place on Scarborough’s West Pier and includes live music, street theatre, world foods and Maritime Heritage boats and displays.

Scarborough Cricket Festival, 6th to 9th August

Yorkshire will take on Nottinghamshire in this annual historic sporting event which always has a great atmosphere and some really good cricket.

P1 Yorkshire Grand Prix on the Sea,  2nd to 3rd September

The P1 Powerboat Championships are heading to Scarborough and the thrilling races are free to watch for spectators.

Scarborough Jazz Festival, 22nd to 24th September

The 15th annual Scarborough Jazz Festival takes place in the Spa Grand Hall and has a line-up including the New York Brass Band and Hans Koller Big Band.

Other towns and villages

Eat Yorkshire Food Festival, 10th to 11th June, 12th to 13th August and 14th to 15th October

This popular food festival takes place three times each year at the Filey Evron Centre. Stalls include a whole range of locally produced Yorkshire food and drink such as breads, cheeses, cider and sloe gin.

Scalby Fair, 11th to 17th June 

A week of events taking place in the village of Scalby which includes children’s fairground rides, Punch and Judy, treasure hunt, flower festival and live music.

Staithes RNLI Lifeboat Weekend, 18th – 20th August

An action packed weekend of fun and fundraising in aid of the extremely valuable lifeboat service.

Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage, 9th and 10th September

The cottages in Staithes are transformed into miniature galleries for the weekend with the work of more than 100 artists displayed.

Robin Hoods Bay Folk Weekend, June 10th, 11th and 12th

The Bay Folk weekend is a free event that includes music and singing sessions throughout the pretty village of Robin Hood’s Bay.

Egton Show, 23rd August 2017

The 128th Egton Show is a fun day out for the whole family and one of the largest village shows in the country.

NMYR 60s Fest, 22nd and 23rd July

Stations on the NMYR railway line (Pickering, Levisham, Goathland and Grosmont) will be transported back to the 60s for the day with vintage cars, beer tents and live music.
